Mädchen- und Frauenchor beim Katholikentag

Vom 25. bis 29. Mai 2016 findet in Leipzig unter dem Motto “Seht, da ist der Mensch” der 100. Deutsche Katholikentag statt. Zehntausende Besucher werden in der Messestadt erwartet, rund 300 kulturelle Veranstaltungen – Konzerte, Kino, Tanz, Kunst und Literatur, Ausstellungen, Kabarett und Theater – stehen auf dem umfangreichen Programm, in dem auch die Schola Cantorum Leipzig mit zwei Konzerten vertreten ist.

Am Freitag, den 27. Mai sind um 15 Uhr in der neuen Propsteikirche Leipzig neben der Schola Cantorum (Leitung: Marcus Friedrich) der Mädchenchor am Kölner Dom (Leitung: Oliver Sperling) sowie die Mädchenkantorei am Hohen Dom zu Paderborn (Leitung: Domkantorin Gabriele Sichler-Karle) zu erleben. Unter der Überschrift “Singt unserem Gott, ja singt ihm” stehen auf dem Konzertprogramm Kompositionen von Josef Gabriel Rheinberger, Johannes Brahms, Arvo Pärt, Javier Busto und anderen.

Am Samstag, den 28. Mai um 19 Uhr singen in der Leipziger Bethanienkirche unter dem Motto “Singt dem Herrn ein neues Lied” die Dresdner Kapellknaben (Leitung: Matthias Liebich), die Mädchenkantorei am Hohen Dom zu Paderborn (Leitung: Domkantorin Gabriele Sichler-Karle), die Regensburger Domspatzen (Leitung: Karl-Heinz Liebl), die Würzburger Domsingknaben (Leitung: Domkapellmeister Christian Schmid) sowie die Schola Cantorum Leipzig (Leitung: Marcus Friedrich).

Girls and female choir of the city of Leipzig

The Schola Cantorum Leipzig's girls and female choir has 80 singers between the ages of 12 and over 30. The choir belongs to Germany's best and is internationally renowned, not least of all due to the high level of musical quality demanded, its rigorous youth development programs, many concert tours abroad as well as a variety of awards won in acclaimed competitions. The choir is especially well versed in the presentation of renaissance period equal voices, a-cappella compositions as well as contemporary pieces. It also regularly works together with German orchestras on choral symphonic works. The choir's vast repertoire includes not only the German romantic works of composers such as Mendelssohn, Schumann, Brahms or Rheinberger, but the ensemble has also made important explorations into French music from the turn of the century. One important key component of the choir's work is the interpretation of contemporary music.

The girls and female choir has been a part of presentations of great oratory works such as Bach's "Passion of St. Mathew", Mendelssohn's "Paulus" and Orff's "Carmina Burana" and has given concerts in Leipzig's most important churches and concert halls. In 1999, the ensemble arranged the official ceremony for the Federal Republic of Germany's 50th birthday in Berlin's Reichstag and 2015 saw the choir sing for Chancellor Angela Merkel as part of the 80th German Welfare Day. The quality of the choirs is attested to by their successful participation in numerous national and international competitions as well as manifold radio, television and CD recordings.

Welcome to the choirs of the Schola Cantorum Leipzig!

The Schola Cantorum Leipzig was founded in 1963 as a youth choir and has been working with the sponsorship of the city of Leipzig since 1982. Today, the Schola Cantorum Leipzig provides musical guidance and training for around 300 children, youth and young adults; singing and making music at all levels from earliest training to the so called "spatzen choirs", children's, girls and female choir through to the chamber choir.
